Mario Isola: An interesting race awaits us

Pirelli has no idea what the strategy for tomorrow’s race will be. This time it is not tire wear, but the weather, and the weather forecast for Sunday is very unfavorable.

Mario IsolaPirelli: “Qualifying was interesting because it always happens when conditions change quickly. As a result, Max Verstappen won pole position, and the top six included drivers from six different teams. This suggests that Formula 1 is now in great shape, despite the dominance of one driver and one team. Verstappen is clearly the favorite for tomorrow’s race, but it’s impossible to say who else will be on the podium.

In terms of strategy, there are several options, both in terms of the number of pit stops and the choice of lineups. This diversity is due to several factors. First up is the Hard C1 compound – it has been adjusted for this year and, despite minor degradation, offers more grip than last year’s Hard.

Another factor is the weather. In cool conditions, the softer Medium and Soft tires perform better. The number of pit stops may vary depending on the characteristics of the cars and the degree of aerodynamic downforce. Those concerned about track position will likely make one pit stop with a combination of C2 and C1. Those who think they have what it takes to be competitive when overtaking will make two pit stops, preferring Medium and Soft. It looks like we will have an interesting race tomorrow.”
