Russell: We have a good chance to fight for the podium

Qualifying in Zandvoort took place on the track that dried up after the rain, the conditions changed very quickly and some riders were unlucky in this situation. Among them was Lewis Hamilton – the Mercedes driver couldn’t go into the final session and he came up quite a bit short. But his partner, George Russell, will start from the second row for the first time since the Australian leg of the season.

Lewis Hamilton (13th): “At the end of the session I drove two fast laps in a row, this caused the tires to overheat, so I couldn’t add more on the last attempt.

But at the start of tomorrow’s race the car will be heavier and I hope its behavior will improve somewhat and maybe we can move forward. Although it is not easy to regain positions on this track.

Anyway, Sunday will be a new day and I will do my best.”

George Russell (3rd): “Great session! At the start of the season, good performance on Saturday was one of my strong points, but lately qualifying has started to turn out worse for me. The summer break was good for me, I had a good rest and came back with new ideas, so tomorrow we have good chances to fight for the podium.

I did a good lap. Usually we start to have problems when the track is very wet or in limit condition, when it is already time to switch to slicks, because it is difficult for us to warm up the tires to the right temperature. At the same time, we know that our weaknesses, appearing on Saturday, turn into virtues on Sunday.

An exciting race awaits us! I’m sure Max Verstappen will be ahead as usual on Sunday, but I hope we can fight against Lando Norris, Alex Albon and the rest of the guys.”
