WEC: Alpine completes initial testing of A424 Hypercar

Alpine F1 is not doing well, but at the same time another Renault racing team continues to prepare for the 2024 WEC season and has carried out the first rather long tests of its latest hypercar.

An Alpine A424, an LMDh class sports prototype built on an Oreca chassis, covered more than 1000km in 4 days on the Le Castellet circuit. The car was driven by Nicolas Lapierre, Charles Milesi and Mathieu Vaksivier, who checked the operation of all its systems and the settings of the hybrid power plant. It is made by Renault-minders together with Mecachrome and is based on a 3.4 liter V6 engine.

Testing will continue at the Spanish Motorland circuit in Aragon in September.

“These first tests are the culmination of months of work that Alpine Racing and our partners have been doing for months,” said Bruno Famin, vice president of Alpine Motorsports. – First impressions are very satisfying, we’ve driven quite a few kilometers which allowed us to fully complete the test program.

The drivers are quite happy with the car, although there were some problems, but work is already underway to eliminate them and we are preparing for the next tests. But we have to be realistic: our project is just at the beginning, there are still many things ahead of us that need to be completed in a very short time.”

The car awaits FIA homologation so that Team Alpine can start the World Endurance Championship, starting with a prologue in Qatar on the last weekend of February 2024. So far, the A424 exists in one example, but construction of the second sports prototype is already underway and the team hopes to have time to do everything on time.
