Magnussen: I didn’t stay in the top ten because of the lack of pace

The race at Zandvoort was the fourth in a row in which Haas did not score any points. The team’s best result was Nico Hulkenberg’s twelfth place, while teammate Kevin Magnussen finished fourteenth. The team stated that such positions reflect the current speed of the car.

Nico Hulkenberg (12th): “Very dynamic race, and the last five laps I was in ‘survival mode’.

I think only two, Valtteri Bottas and myself, decided to stay on the slicks when it started to rain at the start of the race. Now I understand it was the wrong decision. I lost a lot of time in those few laps, in fact we missed the opportunity. Then I ran my race. Based on what I saw, we had good pace for the middle of the pack, but it wasn’t enough to count on more.

We have collected a lot of information about the operation of the front wing. Now it needs to be analyzed and understood. I hope we can optimize the performance of the wing.”

Kevin Magnussen (14th): “I think we worked well at the beginning of the race and appreciated the weather conditions very well. I moved up to seventh but then we started to lose ground and the safety car exit played against us as I lost all the advantage I had gained through correct decisions.

Even more annoying is that I was able to break into the top ten, but due to lack of pace I couldn’t hold the position.

We keep working and have shown today that we do our best when the opportunity arises. But we need to pick up the pace.”

Gunther Steiner, Team boss: “A very exciting race given the constant change of weather. I think we did everything we could to avoid mistakes in such difficult circumstances.

At the moment our dry speed is not good enough, but we did our best in the race. The result reflects our position at the moment.”
