Alex Albon achieved an excellent result in Zandvoort, consistently competing in the top ten and finishing eighth. His Williams teammate Logan Sargent retired after a hydraulic failure…
Alex Albon (8th): “Maybe we should have pitted earlier at the start of the race, but we stuck to our strategy and it worked – I did 40 laps on the Soft, which can only be done with a good car.
I was able to easily control the wear on the front and rear tires using the switches on the handlebars and steering, which shifted the balance in the right direction. Then we switched to Medium and started our way up, counting on 4th or 5th place, but then I was told it was raining.
At the second pit stop we wouldn’t have guessed. I didn’t pit and in the first half of the circle I thought I could overtake two riders through trimming, but in 30 seconds the track got very wet and I lost this opportunity.
We are a bit disappointed that we didn’t finish in 6th place, but eighth place is a great result for us and absolutely deserved. This is our strongest weekend this year. I was more comfortable in the car than ever, so there are a lot of positive moments.”
Logan Sargent (retirement): “The beginning of the race was difficult because of the rain. Intermediate tires were not the best option, we tried to stay on the slicks, but in the rain they cooled down quickly.
It didn’t end the way I wanted. After hitting the curb, there were problems with the hydraulics and power steering, and I couldn’t do anything without it. We need to find out what went wrong.”
