Minardi: Our festival will never leave Imola

Last weekend, the traditional Minardi Historical Day festival was held at the Imola circuit for the seventh time with great success.

According to Giancarlo Minardi, the founder of the Minardi F1 Team, who was active in Formula 1 from 1985 to 2005, he was especially happy that there were many young people in the audience. People of the current generation wanted to get closer to the racing technology of previous eras, which did not yet have electronics, but these machines still have a certain special charm.

“The festival went well, the audience was no less than last year,” says Signor Minardi. – At the same time, we have increased the quantity and quality of equipment, so I am satisfied.

The idea of holding the Minardi Historical Day came about together with Pierluigi Martini, who once played for my team and has now become a very serious collector of racing equipment. We immediately decided that our former rivals, who have since become real friends, should also participate in the festival. And he became very popular very quickly.

We tried to recreate the atmosphere of the paddock as it was in the 1980s and early 1990s when the public was allowed to enter freely. It is great that we give young people the opportunity to get acquainted with the technology of recent years and see that very passionate and well-educated young fans come to the festival, who like to work in the pits.

I don’t think the festival will ever leave Imola, because it’s been held here since the beginning, it’s my home circuit. It will also take place here in the future, with or without him. Soon I will be 76 years old, but I still consider myself young!”
