Q: Share your impressions, how are things going here?
Guanyu Zhou: It’s great, I just drove the Alfa Romeo Tonale high speed hill and of course it’s nice to see so many people, meet acquaintances, because this is the second time I come to Goodwood. This is an important event for British motorsport.
Q: Would you like to race this track in a little more racing than this crossover?
Guanyu Zhou: Of course, speaking of Alfa Romeo models, I’d prefer the Giulia GTAm, but the Tonale, the company’s first hybrid car, is pretty good too. And even better – spinning “donuts” in front of the stands in a Formula 1 car!
Q: The season for the Alfa Romeo team is going well, agree?
Guanyu Zhou: Yes, compared to last year we have made a very noticeable step forward – together with Valtteri Bottas, my partner and the whole team. We also showed good potential and will try to compete for 4th place in the Constructors’ Championship as we are quite behind the best teams in the middle group. I am also happy with my progress.
Q: You’ve been in the youth series for quite some time – what happened to you when you moved into Formula 1? Was it some kind of shock for you, or were you already prepared for such changes?
Guanyu Zhou: I was quite prepared because Formula 2 gives young drivers all the necessary experience, so I can’t say the difference was that big, but it’s still noticeable. I had to change the style of pilots significantly, adapt in many ways, and in the new team it is very important to learn many working procedures, and this is not easy.
But perhaps the psychological side of things is more difficult and more important. If in the youth series the season consisted of 10 or 12 races, then in Formula 1 there are 22, so it is very difficult to maintain the necessary concentration every weekend. But I have found the right approach, so every Grand Prix gives me pleasure.
