At Zandvoort, Alex Albon earned points for the fourth time this year with a Williams car, and he managed to do so despite difficult weather conditions in which many drivers and teams made mistakes. According to Alex, he and his team also did not act perfectly – without this, the result would have been even higher.
Alex Albon: “It was not an easy race. I almost crashed my car about seven times, the conditions were so tough. Of course we decided to stay on the track for the first stint, and in theory that was the wrong decision, but we thought it was better to continue on slicks than to switch to intermediate tyres, as it was already too late for that. , and then go back to the pits. In that sense, we did the right thing.
The car performed well, better than in all my previous races for Williams. I calmly drove more than 40 laps on soft slicks – not at a leisurely pace, of course, but all this time I managed to pass circles with stable results, and everything went well.
Then when I switched to Medium tyres, I even managed to get ahead of one of the Mercedes cars, and I was already starting to think that the race would be surprisingly successful and that I could finish sixth. But in the end I finished eighth, because we were again late with the switch to intermediate tyres.
In any case, I am very proud of this result. It would be easiest to be upset, but you have to see the picture in its entirety: this weekend was incredibly amazing and there were many positive moments. We may not have got all the points we could, but from the first day of the weekend everything went great. The team’s confidence, including mine, has only grown stronger, and in the second part of the season this is very important.
