Liam Lawson will make his F1 debut this weekend replacing the injured Daniel Ricciardo. After qualifying he talked about his first impressions…
Liam Lawson: “Friday I followed the training in the Red Bull pits. Riccardo’s accident was completely accidental. This is not a terrible incident, just the steering wheel shot to the side. I sympathize with Daniel.
When it became known that he had injured his hand, I was sent for a briefing as a precaution and during this briefing I was informed that I would be riding on Saturday.
Of course I would like to prepare better, but all my life I dreamed of driving in Formula 1 and I grabbed this opportunity with both hands. I will try to use it 100%.
Saturday morning practice was very difficult, but already in qualifying, despite the difficult conditions, I felt quite comfortable. When it started to rain again I expected it to be worse, but nothing happened, apparently I got used to these tyres.
If it is dry on Sunday, I will have to learn again. This weekend I didn’t go to a dry track, I didn’t do any long runs. I hope that by the end of the race I will be completely comfortable – that is the goal.”
