In the last stage in the Netherlands, the Williams team earned points for the fourth time this season thanks to Alex Albon’s eighth place. On the eve of the Italian Grand Prix, the team is optimistic again: the fast Monza should match the characteristics of the FW45 car.
Dave Robson, chief engineer: “The FW45 performed well in Zandvoort last weekend, but the weather conditions suited us. We learned a lot about the car and Alex got a good result.
The team examined Logan Sargent’s car and discovered a leak in the power steering. As a result, Logan lost control of the car and crashed this Sunday. It was an unfortunate turn of events: the team needs to do a better job of providing him with a reliable car, behind the wheel of which he will feel confident going into the race.
An alternative tire distribution option will be used this weekend for the second time in the season, with each rider getting fewer sets and having to use certain compounds in qualifying. This complicates the weekend immensely, but it will be interesting to see how each team will perform if the weather is dry all the time.
The circuit in Monza is unique, but the characteristics match the FW45. We need to make the most of this and find the optimal settings that allow the drivers to attack and have confidence in the car, just like last weekend.
The weather forecast is relatively good and should suit the soft tires Pirelli prepared this weekend. We are looking forward to the last European race of the season and looking forward to a strong performance before heading to the Singapore and Japan stages.”
Alex Albon: “We are heading towards Monza after a strong performance in the last stage. I think expectations are quite high for us, but they still need to be revised down a bit.
In theory, Monza suits our car, but as we saw at Spa, we don’t always succeed on tracks with little downforce. The qualifying format will be a little bit different, so it just won’t be, but we put in a strong performance last weekend and learned a lot. I hope we can make use of the information we received earlier in Monza.”
Logan Sargent: “I am happy to be behind the wheel again this weekend in Monza. The circuit is interesting for testing and should suit our car. I hope this opens up more possibilities. The aim is to have a smooth start to the weekend and give the team a good result.”
