The presentation of the Formula 2 car for the 2024, 2025 and 2026 seasons took place in Monza on Thursday.
When creating a novelty, the engineers tried to ensure that the Formula 2 car was close to Formula 1 in terms of safety, appearance and efficiency, but at the same time the cost was kept within reasonable limits. The nose cone, front and rear wings and underbody are designed to contribute to tight wheel-to-wheel combat on the track.
The new car is powered by Mecachrome’s 3.4-liter V6 turbo engine, which incorporates developments that will allow Aramco’s synthetic clean fuels to run from 2025. In 2024, Formula 2 cars will continue to use the 55% biofuel introduced this season.
In July, Tatiana Calderon performed a first run-in of the car at the Wairano circuit, and a series of tests will be held before the end of the year with the participation of several drivers, including 2022 Formula 2 champion Felipe Drugovic .
All Formula 2 teams will receive the first car at the end of December, and the second in mid-January 2024. An official run-in takes place prior to pre-season testing, during which each Formula 2 team is allowed to enter one car.
Stefano DomenicaliPresident and CEO of Formula 1: “Formula 2 consistently delivers great racing and the series itself is an important training ground for future Formula 1 drivers. By bringing the looks of the cars together, we continue to support this development.
The new Formula 2 car is an important symbol of our sustainability journey, as this race series offers advanced, cleaner fuels that will be part of Formula 1 from 2026.
I would like to pay tribute to series manager Bruno Michel and his team, as well as to the FIA, for our constant work and close cooperation. I can’t wait to see this car on track next season.”
