Elbon: Last year in Monza I was very upset

A year ago, Alex Albon was unable to compete in the Italian Grand Prix because he unexpectedly ended up in hospital and underwent emergency surgery to remove his appendix. It was then that Nick de Vries got behind the wheel of his Williams car and earned points for 9th place in his debut race in Formula 1.

Now Albon was asked at the FIA press conference in Monza how he remembers those events now?

“I then stayed in the same hotel where I live now, and they gave me the same room again! Alex said. – And here I lie in bed and remember how everything happened then. I felt pain and did not understand what was happening to me … In general, now I even asked to change my number.

All in all it was a strange time. I was very upset because it was the only time in the whole season when I knew that our car is fast enough and allows you to fight for points. But Nick then did an excellent job for me. However, now this will not happen – the appendix has been removed! (laughs)

This year, compared to last season, we have a more competitive car, you can feel that on all tracks, but let’s see how it goes here in Monza. Of course everyone has quite high expectations after Zandvoort this weekend, but we have to remain realistic.

The Spa track is similar to this one, but we weren’t as fast there as we expected, and then the alarm sounded for us. Therefore, before the first practice, I suggest to talk less about how the car will show itself and what speed it will be capable of.
