Before the weekend at Monza, Mercedes announced the contract extension of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell until the end of the 2025 season.
On Thursday, Russell said negotiations with Mercedes went very smoothly.
George Russell: “The negotiations lasted less than two hours. Only one evening for dinner. I never doubted that this would happen and I never worried about it.
We’ve been working together for so long it’s like we’re married. Toto immediately made me understand: if you win in Formula 3, you get into Formula 2. If you win in Formula 2, you get a place in Formula 1. If you work well at Williams, you end up at Mercedes.
When you’re at Mercedes, you have every chance of winning the title. In this regard, everything was quite simple.
I think the team needs stability to develop and progress. And now we are in a cycle of return to the top. I am very proud to continue working with the team. It’s just beginning!”
