Formula 2: Pole at Monza won by Theo Purscher

The start of F2 qualifying at Monza was delayed, but only for six minutes, although even when the traffic light at the end of the pit lane turned green, no one was in a rush to get out on track.

There were still a lot of people in the grandstands of the autodrome, despite the fact that now not a single Italian driver is present in this youth series. But as usual Italy’s Prema Racing is confident and holds second place in the team standings, with driver Frederic Vesti claiming the title.

It is true that before qualifying the Danish driver literally said the following: “Of course we want to win pole, but in Monza it is easier to overtake than on any other circuit, so here you can win the race from any angle. position.”

In the end, the first cars rolled onto the track, but returned to the pits without completing the lap, and the fundamental dispute over pole position did not start, although almost ten minutes of the session had passed.

When the riders nevertheless entered a fundamental dispute for the title, it was important to choose the right time to enter the track and the position to take advantage of the slipstream behind the opponent’s car.

The pilots completed the first fast lap in succession, and almost each subsequent one bettered the time of those who ran before, but Victor Marten was the first to reach the top of the qualifying protocol – the ART rider showed 1 minute. 32.423 seconds. However, his result was soon blocked by Theo Purscher, the leader of the individual classification, who had driven 0.159 seconds faster.

The second time was shown by Oliver Berman, the third by Isaac Hadjar, and Marten was only on the fourth line.

After the first attempt, everyone returned to the pits for fresh tires and took to the track again when less than four minutes remained before the end of qualifying. Around this time it was announced that the stewards would be investigating the episode where Roy Nissany interfered with said Purscher after the session.

However, not everyone made the second qualifying attempt: the car of Jack Crawford, an American Hitech racer who won qualifying in Zandvoort, was left in the pits due to some problems. At the time, he was ranked 6th in protocol.

As is often the case at Monza, the rest took to the track all at once, causing pandemonium on the track and getting in the way of each other. In this situation, no one managed to cover Purcher’s result and the Frenchman took pole position for the second time this season. He was of course more than fine with that, also because he received two extra points for his performance.

The second result went to Oliver Berman, but Roman Stanek moved up to third, pushing Hacar aside. At the same time, Vesti, who at first, as we remember, was not particularly combative, showed only the 8th time.

Ralf Boschung will start from the first position on Saturday and will show the 10th result today – a partially reversed starting order is used in the youth series. Accordingly, Lead will start tomorrow’s race from 3rd position, and this will give him a good chance to battle for the sprint win.
