At Monza, the tire manufacturers offered the teams an alternative choice of tires – 11 sets of slicks instead of 13 – three sets of Hard, four Medium and four Soft. In tomorrow’s qualifying, riders are only allowed to use one compound in each session: Hard in the first, Medium in the second and Soft in the third.
Simone Barrachief engineer: “A useful day in terms of information received, which we will analyze this weekend.
The alternative choice of tires forced the teams to change their programme, allowing us to collect a large amount of tire data, distributed almost evenly across all three dry track compounds, without compromising the spectacle, as the number of laps was exactly what we saw at Monza last year.
Already in the first set of laps, when the air temperature was closer to expectations on Sunday, we saw a long run of laps. The second workout followed a more traditional pattern, allowing us to confirm the performance difference between Medium and Soft, which we estimate to be around half a second.
Medium and Hard compounds are more suitable for the race, and Soft doesn’t provide much of an advantage given the temperature this weekend. The condition of the track continues to improve, tire wear will gradually decrease, especially on the Soft compound.”
