Alex Albon set the seventh fastest time in the second practice in Monza. The Williams driver said the team was studying Medium tires today to increase its chances of reaching the qualifying final.
His teammate Logan Sargent set the sixteenth fastest time and sets himself the task of reaching the second part of qualifying.
Alex Albon (7th): “It is difficult to find the minimum downforce settings. I don’t think anyone has done it particularly well, but otherwise the car is fine. The program we worked on today was different from most programs. We tried to understand the Medium tires which will be mandatory for use in the second part of qualifying tomorrow. This was important to increase the chances of reaching the final.
There were a few issues with the car, but nothing I couldn’t fix. Tomorrow we will start to solve this problem. It’s important that we join the fight, but I don’t want to rush into predictions.
Let’s see what programs the others will use in the third training session. This will help us understand where to focus our efforts.”
Logan Sargent (16th): “It turned out to be a tough day, but I’m sure it’s because of the low downforce. Certainly tomorrow we must find an opportunity to add something. I don’t think we are far behind, but we do want to take a few steps forward.
On Saturday it’s important to avoid the chaos that normally happens at Monza, get the tires in working range and drive good circles. I hope that all this will enable me to take a high starting position. The goal for tomorrow is to move forward step by step. Go to the second part of qualifying first and then think about the rest.
