Mike Krak: Lance Stroll isn’t having much luck this year

After practice at Monza, Aston Martin team principal Mike Krak spoke about the reasons for the problem that prevented Lance Stroll from working on track at all today. The Canadian was unlucky again, but Krak thinks that this has not affected his psychological state in any way.

Mike Krak: “Unfortunately Lance’s car had fuel system issues on the first lap, which ended practice for him. But tomorrow we will try to make everything right.

I think all teams experiment a bit in practice to understand how rubber of different compounds works, but we tried to save an extra set of hard tires in the calculation for tomorrow’s qualifying. That’s why Fernando Alonso was on the same set of tires all through second practice, and today it had some consequences (8th fastest time), but we will gain an advantage the remaining days of the weekend. You have to compromise.
If we talk about Lance’s situation, you can see what happens: in accordance with our plans, the first training on his car was conducted by Felipe Drugovich, and then we were faced with a technical problem. Lance isn’t having much luck this year, and there have been quite a few such problems before.

However, he has a very positive attitude, lately he has been working intensively on the simulator and working with engineers, trying to understand where he needs to improve, but I think the team also needs to take some steps. I don’t think his confidence in himself and his abilities has diminished – he has a stable psyche and he understands that sometimes there are periods when it seems that everything is turning against you. But this does not affect him … “
