Mercedes drivers George Russell and Lewis Hamilton set ninth and seventeenth fastest times in the second practice session of the Italian Grand Prix. Both drivers indicated that there is still work to be done with the settings and balance of the car to increase the speed on a fast lap.
George Russell (9th): “It’s great to be back in Monza and drive the car at such high speeds with minimal downforce. The track characteristics are drastically different from what we saw at Zandvoort last week and it was fun to adapt to that.
The car drives well enough, but we need to add soft tyres. The pace with a full tank in a long run is quite high, so tomorrow we need to focus on getting more speed in qualifying.”
Lewis Hamilton (17e): “It turned out to be a relatively normal Friday for me. The reliability is at a high level, we have done everything necessary and carried out various tests. We learned a lot today, but we have to work in the evenings and add on Saturdays – we always manage.
I know the team will do a great job improving the setup and balance of the car, and tomorrow we will go faster.”
