The Italian round of the season at Monza is the first home Grand Prix for Frédéric Vasseur as head of the Ferrari team, and so far everything is going well for her: Carlos Sainz was leading in practice, and Charles Leclerc is running not far behind him.
But when Vasser was asked how his business was doing in an interview with Sky TV, he replied with a laugh: “Alive for now! But training is not a qualification and this afternoon we will have to work hard to get everything in order.
So far everything is going really well, the car showed good pace also on long sets of circles but the results are very tight – it will be this afternoon too so you can’t relax you have to keep calm and try as best possible to perform.
We had some problems in Zandvoort and Budapest, but our form was already better in Canada, Austria and Spa. Therefore, the SF-23 can cope better with circuits that require less downforce, so everything should be fine in Monza.
We are already preparing for 2024, but as the regulations remain stable, we cannot develop a new chassis from scratch. Obviously, we now have a better understanding of the characteristics of the SF-23, which not only behaves erratically on different tracks, but on some of them at different angles.
As soon as we manage to get rid of this instability, we will immediately take a noticeable step forward – this is a more correct approach than simply trying to increase the downforce of the chassis. Instability is the main problem that hinders us.”
