After last week’s rainy stage in Zandvoort, the weather took pity on spectators and riders. Only 800 kilometers further south – and Formula 1 will be back in the summer.
Many went out with aerodynamic paint, some teams again had a bunch of cars. The circuit in Monza is unique, but the teams have not made a separate aerodynamic body kit for it for a long time, modifying the existing one.
There were some minor errors. Hamilton locked the tires under braking and cut into the first corner, Sainz drove slowly through the middle of the track and avoided Tsunoda, who narrowly avoided a collision. While entering the pits, Hulkenberg nearly hit an Aston Martin mechanic who was too close to the track.
Sargent lost his left mirror when he attacked the curb – the mechanics put him a new one. Norris encountered a slow Alfa Romeo car at the exit of Lesmo 1 and drove off the track to avoid a collision – Zhou was warned of these actions with a black and white flag. Piastri and Bottas were thrown into the gravel but were able to continue.
For Perez, training ended earlier than planned: the mechanics removed the bottom of his car due to a fuel leak and went to look for the cause.
The best time was set by Carlos Sainz with a lap time of 1:20.912.
