Carlos Sainz: The main goal is to win the race

Carlos Sainz won qualifying in Monza, sparking a storm of enthusiasm among the tifosi, who are clearly more in the stands of the Italian circuit than the fans of other teams – this is the fourth pole in the career of the Spanish racer .

Carlos Sainz: “To be honest, qualifying was very exciting, especially the last session. You understand that all three of us were arguing for pole position, so we had to push it to the limit. On the last lap I knew I could gain some time at the Ascari chicane and at the Parabolica corner, so I decided to take a chance.

Everything ended well, but in this last lap I had to attack with all my might. When I crossed the finish line, I immediately got goosebumps – on the circle of return to the pits, I saw the audience in the stands, I heard all this noise – all this causes incredible emotions!

In general, wherever we are, we feel warm support, and this is the best feeling a racer can experience. Our main goal in tomorrow’s race is to climb to the top of the podium, so it’s important to stay in the lead, and I intend to give everything for this.

We need to start well and have a good first stint – let’s see if we can fight with Max. He’s usually quicker than us on long laps, but I’ll do my best.”
