In qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen set the second fastest time, losing 0.013 seconds to pole holder Carlos Sainz. Despite the minimal deficit, the Red Bull Racing driver was not angry with his result and was happy for his Ferrari rivals.
Max Verstappen (2nd): “Good result. We made progress compared to Friday practice. You could see there was a really close fight in qualifying in every session, so I’m glad I showed for the second time today.
It’s nice to see a Ferrari on pole in Monza, but of course I’m going to try to win the race tomorrow. Normally our car is fast in the long run, so let’s just enjoy today and then focus on tomorrow’s race.”
Sergio Perez (5th): “Not the best day. Switching power sources and skipping most of the third workout didn’t help. As a result, I couldn’t try the Soft tires before qualifying, so I wasn’t very ready for the final.
Overall I couldn’t maximize the car’s potential, but the team did a great job getting the car back into qualifying. We had a good Friday and showed great race pace. I hope tomorrow will be the same.”
