Novelties presented by the teams in Monza

The circuit in Monza is not called the “Temple of Speed” for nothing – the classic Italian circuit requires special treatment, so everyone prepares individually for this weekend. Of the ten championship teams, nine reported on certain new products appearing on their cars and being tested for the first time during practice.

This number did not only include the Haas F1.

Red Bull racing

In the case of the RB19, the updates affected two parts of the car – the trailing edges of the adjustable surfaces of both wings, both front and rear, look a little different – this reduces aerodynamic load and drag.

Ferrari

Firstly, to mark the Italian race weekend, the Scuderia cars have a special version of the livery, but it does not affect speed, but is affected by the rear wings of the car, designed for a lower level of downforce.

On the rear wing, the profile of the lower and upper planes has changed, and the team separately reported a reduction in efficiency on the adjustable plane of the front wing.

Mercedes

In Zandvoort the Mercedes drivers failed to climb the podium, but in Monza the team will recover. Smaller fenders are installed at the rear of the W14 machines – both the main and additional lower ones. Therefore, in accordance with the characteristics of the circuit, they will generate less downforce, which will increase the efficiency of the chassis on the long straights of Monza.

Alpine F1

The works team of the French car manufacturer Renault reported on the only novelty prepared for the Italian Grand Prix: this is a modified profile of the additional rear wing, which will reduce drag.

McLaren

There are many more new features on the MCL60 machines, all of which should help improve aerodynamic balance and improve overall chassis efficiency.

The front wing has changed the profile of the adjustable plane, this is done to “improve downforce balance” in line with the characteristics of the Italian track, where a low level of downforce is required.

On the rear wing, the planes, end plates and deflectors became different. In addition, the Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri cars have new air ducts for the front brakes, which was done to increase the efficiency of their cooling.

Alfa Romeo

This weekend’s Alfa Romeo cars in special war paint look very impressive, but they also have special versions of the rear wing – the end plates and main plane have become different. Improvements have also been made to the front suspension geometry, which is also subject to the demands of the Monza circuit.

Aston Martin

There is only one novelty on the AMR23 car: the adjustable plane of the rear wing has been changed, which was done to reduce drag.

AlphaTauri

AlphaTauri has prepared revised versions of the front fender and additional rear fender for the Monza; the brackets for mounting the rear-view mirrors have changed and changes have been made to the design of the rear brakes.

Williams

The only novelty in the cars of Alex Albon and Logan Sargent is that the trailing edge of the adjustable front wing has been reshaped. In principle, the FW45 is believed to generate less downforce than other teams’ cars, so the team felt that this change would be sufficient.

The team is also very optimistic this weekend and expects clear success at this track – in the case of Williams this is a top ten finish.
