Carlos Sainz finished third in Monza after fending off numerous attacks from teammate Charles Leclerc in the closing laps. This podium was the first of the season for the Ferrari driver, and right after the finish Carlos shared his thoughts on the last race.
Carlos Sainz: “It’s a very difficult race – it can’t be more difficult than today. Honestly, I attacked the whole distance, trying to keep the Red Bull drivers behind me. Because of this, there was a very high load on the rear tires – in the last laps I had to pay a price for this. I did everything I could to finish third – no doubt it was difficult.
I always like to fight Charles when I have the chance. He is a real racer, just like Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. Today we had a lot of fun and I hope the fans enjoyed it too.
When evaluating the results of the race, you have to take into account the pace of our car and the level of tire wear. We lacked speed compared to Red Bull, but our team took a clear step forward. This weekend we came out on top of the rest. Given the circumstances, the team achieved a good result.”
