At Monza, the Alfa Romeo team earned points for the first time since the Canadian Grand Prix thanks to tenth-place Valtteri Bottas. His teammate Guanyu Zhou struggled outside the top 10 throughout the race and finished 14th, lamenting the lack of speed that prevented him from reaching further.
Valttery Bottas (10th): “Today our goal was to earn points, and we succeeded. It’s nice to be back in the top ten after a long break. This earned point is a reward for everyone at Alfa Romeo for the work done and a thank you to the fans for supporting the team.
I had a clean race. Our pace was a bit better than in qualifying and we had a strategy that allowed us to run on an empty track away from the problems. All in all we can safely say today was a good day, a great way to end the European half of the season.”
Guanyu Zhou (14th): “I’m happy that Valtteri scored one point in the race, which allowed us to close the gap on Haas. Given the results we achieved on Friday and Saturday, we took a huge step forward today, which is inspiring for the races ahead. We will be bringing novelties to Singapore which should help add even more.
I think I ran the race nicely. Valtteri and I had different tire strategies: he started on Hard and I started on Medium hoping to trim the Alpine. On pure pace we are behind Williams, which is why it is crucial to take a step forward in Singapore and keep working to get more points.”
