Liam Lawson finished 11th at Monza, his best result in Formula 1. The AlphaTauri driver was disappointed as he felt the car’s speed allowed him to battle for points.
New Zealand partner Yuki Tsunoda retired from the track during the warm-up lap due to a power station malfunction and failed to start.
Liam Lawson (11th): “A few things went wrong today. We need to evaluate the start. I could have done better and that’s why we missed the opportunity. Then I showed a good pace, but the race was not in our favor.
I am continuing to study the procedures and am gradually feeling more comfortable behind the wheel, but I am still a little disappointed with my race, as the speed of the car allowed me to count on points today. Although I’m not sure, we need to analyze everything.
Formula 1 races take longer than I’m used to, so I still have to adapt. But now I feel better prepared than last weekend, which I’m happy about.
Yuki Tsunoda (didn’t start): “I heard a strange noise, after which there was a loss of power. I don’t know the exact reason, but we’ll find out for sure. Of course there is nothing good about reliability problems, but this is only the first case of the season, so we remain positive and will come back stronger.
I wanted to ride the team’s home race because there was a chance to score points today given the fast pace in practice. Too bad it turned out that way, but we were able to learn a lot this weekend.
Over the past few weekends the car has been stable and even when there were problems we were stronger the next day. The ability to get the most out of it is one of our strengths, so I have no fears for the future.”
