Perez is very satisfied with Monza’s results

Sergio Perez finished second in Monza to extend his lead over his rivals in the individual competition – and he is pleased with the results of the weekend…

Q: You came to the weekend with a desire to have a clean weekend and ended up climbing to the podium. Are you satisfied with how everything went?
Sergio Perez: Very satisfied. On Saturday, taking into account the problems in the third practice, everything went wrong and I fell back in qualifying. If I had started higher I could have been fighting for the win, but second place is a good result. We adjusted the settings so that I feel much more comfortable in the race.

Question: Several teams have opted for a strategy of two pit stops, although everyone was sure before the start that they would cover the distance with one tire change without any problems. Was the tire degradation more than you expected before the race?
Sergio Perez: I don’t think anyone had such an idea of what relegation would be like. In Friday second practice I was responsible for the red flags appearing, which prevented anyone from going more than four or five laps.

In addition, it was warmer on Sunday. No one could imagine what the tire wear would be, but it was really high.

Q: Because the cars are set up for low downforce, the DRS efficiency is lower at Monza than at other circuits, so we saw more overtaking in the braking zones than on the straights. Did you like it? Do you see this as a way to further develop Formula 1?
Sergio Perez: I believe that reducing the effect of DRS is not the way forward. I remember we once discussed the possibility of increasing the effectiveness of DRS. In Monza the effect was very small, I don’t think we will be able to race in such conditions in other places. In some places we need more DRS to make the racing more spectacular.

Q: The stage in Singapore will be more difficult for you than in Monza, but you won this race last year. Hope to repeat?
Sergio Perez: Anything can happen in Singapore. I hope we do well in qualifying because if you don’t start from the front row the chances of winning are pretty much out of the question. Of course I would like to perform as well as last year.
