Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz commented on yesterday’s attempted robbery in Milan when two intruders took off his watch but the Spaniard then, with help from others, held them down until police arrived.
Carlos Sainz: “As many of you already know, there was an unfortunate incident in Milan yesterday. It is important that everything goes well with us, and all this will remain just a funny incident.
Many thanks to all the people who helped us yesterday, the Milan police for their prompt intervention and thank you for your support.”
Details of the incident are mentioned in the official statement of the Milan police, quoted by the Spanish press:
“On Sunday evening, the police in Milan, in the Monte Napoleone region, arrested three Moroccan citizens aged 18, 19 and 20, suspected of robbing Carlos Sainz.
At around 8:30 p.m., in front of the Armani Hotel on Via Manzoni, the three approached the driver, who was accompanied by his manager, and one of them ripped off his watch. The Formula 1 driver in his manager’s car first made an attempt to block their way and prevent them from leaving, then left the car and, with the help of passersby, was able to stop the thief in Pietro Verri Street.
The second intruder was apprehended by the driver’s manager on Della Spiga Street, and the third was stopped not far from this place by one of Sainz’s entourage, also with the help of passersby.
