Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff said in Monza that Max Verstappen’s tenth win in a row is “an achievement for Wikipedia”.
Toto Wolff: “When we won, the situation in our team was a bit different: our two riders were fighting each other.
I don’t know if Max cares about records but to me they don’t matter, all these numbers are for Wikipedia but nobody reads it anyway.
When we won, no one was talking about Mercedes’ records. I don’t know how many races we’ve won in a row. I did not even know that anyone counts the number of victories in a row, so it is difficult for me to comment on this achievement, since these numbers did not play any role in my life. But Max’s result shows that a great driver in a great car is performing at an extremely high level.”
According to Wolff, Hamilton’s willingness to admit his mistakes sets him apart from other drivers…
Toto Wolff: “Lewis is very sporting about this kind of thing. He is the only one who always admits his mistakes – and speaks openly about them.
He said he hadn’t seen Piastri’s car, so there was a collision – and apologized to him. Such behavior deserves respect. Almost everyone around is constantly complaining and moaning just to avoid getting fined.
I have no complaints about Lewis. He made a mistake and was fined. Give this five seconds. Such mistakes arise during a tense battle for position. Overtaking is difficult in Monza and there have been several incidents like this.”
