Sebastian Vettel missed the first two stages of the season due to Covid-19 and after getting back behind the wheel in Melbourne his car crashed twice. Former Formula 1 team boss Giancarlo Minardi believes it is time for the German driver to end his career.
Giancarlo Minardi: “Sebastian was unlucky – he missed the first two races because of the corona virus and in the third stage he was eliminated due to a car crash. He has to end his career. He’s already made a lot of money and won titles, but he won’t win again.”
Speaking about Ferrari’s success in the first races of the season, Minardi noted that this form of the Italian team was a surprise to him: “There are people working in Maranello who can make better cars than the cars the team makes in 2020 had and 2021. However, in the first races I was more surprised by the mistakes of my rivals, but I did not expect Ferrari to be so competitive, after so many years of problems they have kept the unity and confidence in their leader.
Even after such results, Ferrari must remain firmly on the ground, because in Formula 1, it is very easy to lose the advantage. There are still 20 Grand Prix on the schedule, but the style in which Charles Leclerc won in Melbourne speaks volumes. In Europe, a new phase of the season is starting and we will understand if Ferrari’s results were coincidental, or if this is the start of a new winning cycle.”
