Before the race weekend at Monza, Andrea Stella commented on the conversation about the possible departure of Lando Norris to Red Bull Racing. The head of McLaren expressed confidence that the team will have no problems keeping the British racer.
In turn, Red Bull motorsport consultant Helmut Marko confirmed interest in Norris and regretted that Lando’s contract with McLaren does not expire until the end of 2025.
Helmut Marko: “Sergio Perez does not always have enough concentration, so he is unstable, but he has a contract with us until the end of 2024 and Lando Norris’s contract expires in 2025 anyway. Unfortunately, this is too long, otherwise Lando would be one of candidates for a spot on the team.
Once we managed to agree with Norris to play for Toro Rosso, but then his manager realized that in the contract with McLaren there is an option to play for them. In terms of youth and speed, Norris suited us very well.
Sergio is over 30 years old and already has four children. He has a lot of other interests besides Formula 1, so we’ll see what happens next.”
