In 2019, Formula 1 announced its ambition to be carbon neutral by 2030 as part of a broader environmental strategy that the championship will pursue.
Three years have passed since then, during this time much work has been done to fulfill the tasks set, and before the British Grand Prix, the championship leadership decided to remind the world of plans for further work in the field of ecology .
Throughout the season, new logos dedicated to this program will be widely displayed in the paddock and boxes as Formula 1 management wants the motorsport community and the world at large to be aware of environmental initiatives.
According to a press release from Formula 1, the next-generation hybrid engines that the championship teams will switch to in 2026 will run on fully synthetic fuel. The development of such a fuel is already underway and could be used in the future in combustion engines on a global scale, which will help the entire automotive industry to reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere.
The essence of the task of the developers of the new fuel is that it can be used in existing engines, requiring no modifications.
This is an important point, because despite the course towards electrification of transport, conventional combustion engines will continue to be used in the world for quite some time. Although many developed countries will ban the sale of new cars with such engines in the next decade, it is estimated that by 2040 the share of electric vehicles on the roads worldwide will not exceed 30%.
