Nico Rosberg: Aston Martin needs two fast drivers

After the Italian Grand Prix, the gap between Fernando Alonso in the individual standings of partner Lance Stroll increased to 123 points. In the last seven races, the Canadian driver only managed 12 points to Alonso’s 71.

In the Constructors’ Championship, Aston Martin dropped to fourth place, although it had recently occupied second place. 2016 World Champion Nico Rosberg believes Aston Martin cannot afford to continue working with a slow driver if the team expects to compete for high positions.

Nico Rosberg: “The problem is fundamental. I don’t know what happened to Lance Stroll, he’s a good racer. At the start of the season he was almost at Alonso’s level. When Fernando got third, Lance finished fifth or sixth. I don’t know what’s going on with Stroll right now, but he’s clearly going through a rough patch.

In the long run, Aston Martin cannot afford to partner with a driver who is so far behind. Lance must either improve by returning to the positions he should be in or the team will have to think about replacing the second rider.

Fernando needs to be pushed forward. Working with settings is much more efficient when two riders are involved – the dynamics are completely different. It is very important that the team had two very fast riders.

It’s not for me to judge, but if Lance’s problems continue, maybe he should do something different? I think it will be easier for everyone if Stroll finds a way to get back to the positions where he should be: not far from Fernando.
