Haas stopped working with Kevin Magnussen at the end of 2020, but before the start of the 2022 season, they offered the Dane to return to replace Nikita Mazepin. Kevin said that after a year out of Formula 1, he is no longer afraid of being out of a contract.
Kevin Magnussen: “I wasn’t in Formula 1 for a year, but it feels like all ten have passed. When I get behind the wheel I don’t feel like much has changed, but when it comes to changes outside the cockpit I really feel like I’ve been away for a long time.
Having a baby has changed my life priorities. Formula 1 is still very important to me, but it is no longer the most important part of my life. Family life is much more important to me, although before that I thought of nothing but Formula 1. I was happy when everything went well for me – at least that’s how I felt. When there were problems on the track, my whole life was filled with suffering, but now everything has changed.
Now I have learned to enjoy my work more. For me racing has become a bonus, a beautiful gift. At one point I was without a contract in Formula 1, closed this chapter to myself – now I’m not so afraid to repeat this path again.
I am no longer afraid of losing my place in Formula 1. I just hope I have many more years in the championship ahead of me. It is better to be happy and grateful rather than to be afraid. I’m relaxed and I know what I’m capable of.”
