Lewis Hamilton responds to criticism of Jackie Stewart

Recently, three-time world champion Jackie Stewart gave an interview in which several comments were made that Lewis Hamilton clearly did not like. In particular, Stewart said that Lewis no longer had a “strong desire” to be champion, and “because of this, and also because his car is no longer the fastest, he is in serious trouble.”

On BBC Breakfast Friday, Lewis Hamilton responded to Jackie Stewart: “Some narrow-minded people comment without knowing what kind of work is going on in the background.

I hope that in the future, when I retire and look at the next generation of riders, I will inspire them and explain that it’s okay to make mistakes. They will make many mistakes, I will continue to make mistakes for many years to come, but I want to inspire them and not close my eyes. That’s the kind of person I want to be.”

Lewis added that the problems of the past few seasons had not affected his motivation, and that the difficulties experienced allowed him to improve.

“We haven’t made any progress in the last two years, but it was still a great time,” said Hamilton. “We all had to come together and support each other. That’s why when my team and I build the car we need, I’ll be better prepared to fight than ever before.”
