Oscar Piastri is ready to compete in Formula 1 until he is forty

Fernando Alonso celebrated his 42nd birthday in July, while he has already finished on the podium seven times in 2023 and it is possible that with a bit of luck he can take his 33rd victory. Lewis Hamilton extended his contract with Mercedes for another two seasons last week. The seven-time world champion also plans to continue driving in Formula 1 until he is forty.

But Max Verstappen categorically stated that he is not going to set any records in terms of sporting longevity.

Oscar Piastri, who made his Formula 1 debut with McLaren this year, is closer to the example of Alonso and Hamilton than to the Dutch Red Bull Racing driver.

When asked how long he would like to drive in Formula 1, the 22-year-old Australian responded cheerfully:

“It took me eighteen years to get here. If at forty I still enjoy driving race cars, and I still love what I do, then I think the next eighteen years will be well spent.

When a driver is as successful as Lewis, it is understandable why he loves his job so much, and I believe we all get into motorsport because we really love racing.

Obviously, the higher the level you compete at, the greater the pressure, the more you have to do all kinds of other things etc., but personally I will be quite happy if I continue racing at this age.”

Alex Albon is 27 years old and in his fourth full season in Formula 1 and second with Williams. He is also not averse to not taking part in the World Championship until he is forty, but admits that this requires talent comparable to that of Hamilton.

“To stay in Formula 1 until the age of 40 requires a rare, once-in-a-generation talent,” says Alex. – We would all like to compete in F1 at the age of 40, but that usually doesn’t happen. You can set yourself such a goal, but you understand how difficult it is to maintain a high level for so long, what effort it takes. I have no doubt that Lewis can do it because he is still motivated and full of energy.”
