Presenting a new partnership with Saudi project NEOM, McLaren Racing chief executive Zach Brown spoke not only about the company’s electric programs, but also the upcoming Formula 1 race at Silverstone.†
Q: What tasks do you set for the team on the eve of the British Grand Prix?
Zach Brown: I think Silverstone is a little better for our cars, although that remains to be seen. In the previous stages we were unstable: on the one hand our rider was on the podium for the first time this year, on the other hand there were races that I would like to forget.
But if you prepare for your Grand Prix at home, you’re setting yourself up for higher results, and if our cars really do well, we’ll do our best. Our goal is for both drivers to finish in the top ten and earn points.
Q: One of the hottest topics right now is the build of new generation cars at high speeds. Can you tell what happened at the team leaders meeting in Canada where this topic was also discussed? They say the exchange of views was very sharp…
Zach Brown: Yes, in my opinion there was such a thing as a performance specially organized by the leaders of some teams under the lenses of the Netflix crew. In fact, this is a serious problem, as the safety and health of the riders is a priority. This worries everyone, not just those teams that suffer the most from the build-up.
We also had a problem in Baku, but it turned out to be a malfunction of the car. But you can’t just soften the car’s suspension and raise the ride height. The build-up may stop, but the car will slow down a lot. And if you try to make the machine as efficient as possible, in some cases the machine will destabilize.
In general, we had a discussion about this topic, one of the participants said we don’t have such a problem, others admitted it exists, but in my opinion the advantage is that now everyone will cover this problem on Indeed , are new meetings are planned at different levels, aimed at finding an effective solution.
Q: The whole McLaren team is already waiting for the race at Silverstone anyway – are you happy with the upcoming meeting with British fans?
Zach Brown: Yes, it will be great! I missed this race last year due to Covid-19 so this is my first time back at Silverstone – it’s a great track and the British Championship round is always great so looking forward to the start of the race weekend.
