McLaren undecided where Rosenquist will compete

McLaren Racing recently extended the contract with Felix Rosenquist, who is playing for the Arrow McLaren SP in IndyCar for the second year, but it has not yet been decided whether the Swede will remain in the US series or return to Formula E.

The fact is that Felix has a rich experience of participating in the electric championship, which not everyone can boast of: he was a driver for the Mahindra team for two full seasons and achieved several victories. And next season the McLaren team will make its debut in Formula E, and this experience could be in demand.

Zach Brown doesn’t deny they can do that, but hasn’t made a decision yet.

“In the situation we are in now, it makes sense and Felix can win races in both series,” the CEO of McLaren Racing said today while presenting NEOM, their title partner for their electric programs. – I wouldn’t say we definitely will, this is just one of the possible options based on understanding a particular rider’s abilities, taking into account the series we’re competing in and the job openings we have.

So far, nothing has been decided yet, but in the end we are trying to ensure that the best drivers participate in all our racing programs. We are expanding our IndyCar team to three cars and Felix’s experience is unique as he has won races in both IndyCar and Formula E so he could race in both series.

In fact, a lot depends on who else will be on our IndyCar and Formula E teams, and then we will decide which compounds we think are best for Formula 1, IndyCar, Formula E and the Extreme E series. we have not yet decided which car we want to put Felix behind the wheel with.”

McLaren’s Formula E team will be built around the works Mercedes team and Ian James will remain in charge, but Brown explained that it was not his plan to team up with drivers Stoffel Vandorn and Nick de Vries: “No, they are going do other things. I could have prevented them, but I decided to let them go!”
