Last weekend, Sebastian Vettel returned to the wheel of a Formula 1 car and took part in the Formula Nürburgring racing festival, held by Red Bull on the classic German circuit.
Sebastian again piloted the RB7 car, which he drove in 2011, after which he won his second championship title with Red Bull Racing. Now sharing his impressions of a new meeting with his “Seductive Kylie”, he did not hide the fact that he was overwhelmed by positive emotions.
And although it was only an exhibition performance, one wonders: will the four-time world champion return to Formula 1?
Since Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s motorsport advisor, still regularly communicates with his former driver, with whom he has a long-standing working and friendly relationship, it makes perfect sense to ask him this question.
“Motorsport is necessarily about combustion engines that run on petrol, and Sebastian is now concerned about environmental issues, and that is understandable,” Marco replied. But if he knows the direction Formula 1 has chosen, why wouldn’t he come back?
To be honest, I wouldn’t want him to be Max Verstappen’s teammate. But if Sebastian wants to return, he must fight for victories as part of a top team.”
Overall, the intrigue remains. It remains only to quote Sebastian himself, who summarized his participation in the Red Bull Festival as follows: “It felt like I was back on the starting grid and the race was about to start! And it was really cool and brought back a lot of great memories!..”
Whether participating in exhibition performances can somehow influence Vettel’s mood is something we will find out over time. According to the German tabloid Bild, Sebastian will appear in the Formula 1 paddock again in less than two weeks – this will be at the Japanese Grand Prix, but this is not about a return to racing, but about some kind of new project.
