On the eve of the British Grand Prix, Haas driver Kevin Magnussen spoke about the characteristics of the circuit at Silverstone and Formula 1’s busy schedule, including four races in July.
Q: How do you feel about returning to Silverstone?
Kevin MagnussenA: I’m glad to be back. In many ways this is the home race for Formula 1 and it takes place on a great track. The track is one of the classics, so it’s great to be back at Silverstone – I’m looking forward to it.
Q: Tell us about the characteristics of the circle and how the new cars will behave in the fast corners of Maggotts, Becketts and Abbey?
Kevin Magnussen: These cars are a little slower, but they will still be fast. The cars have rigid suspension, so the approach to attacking the curbs in Maggotts and Becketts will most likely have to be changed. I would say this feature will make the race more difficult because the cars have stiffer suspension and minimal ground clearance, but Silverstone is still a great track.
Q: The British Grand Prix opens a series of four races in July. How hard will it be for the drivers and team members to work in such a schedule?
Kevin Magnussen: The team is going to have a tough month, especially for the mechanics. As for the riders, such a schedule is like a walk in the park, so I’m looking forward to it. If you have a bad race, you can immediately switch to preparing for the next one.
In addition, since all the races take place in Europe, it is much easier for us. You can go to the stage on Thursday morning and go home on Sunday evening. That is easier than, for example, holding two races in Asia in a month.
