Mick Schumacher: Although not all places are filled, opportunities remain

Mick Schumacher still doesn’t have a contract for 2024, and even his friend Sebastian Vettel doesn’t really believe in his chances of returning to Formula 1 as a driver for one of the teams. However, the son of the seven-time world champion does not give up hope, and he is right in his way that although not all places are taken, the probability of a favorable outcome is still other than zero.

“Hope dies last,” he said in an interview with the German news agency SID. – Although not all places are filled, opportunities remain. In the last two or three years we have seen examples that the situation can change even if all contracts have been signed. Therefore, it would be wrong to give up hope.

Of course I think about different scenarios, I also have a plan B and am currently preparing it.”

In any case, Mick does not have many options: formally there are still vacancies at Williams and Alfa Romeo – the British team is in no hurry to extend the contract with Logan Sargent, and the Swiss team with Guanyu Zhou.

Mick may remain a reserve driver at Mercedes, especially because he does not see the missed season as a waste of time: “This experience was useful in many ways, perhaps it has even given me more than I expected. First of all, the opportunity to train in a simulator helps me, and I was also able to really learn how a top team works.

If you only watch the races from the outside, this will obviously lead to painful experiences. I’d be lying if I said I liked it. I’m a racer and I’m only interested in the opportunity to fight for victories. But we have to take reality into account, work on ourselves, keep negotiating with teams and try to interest them.”

When Schumacher was asked how exactly he does it, the German driver replied: “I say they haven’t seen the real Mick yet.”
