No luck for Formula 2 drivers during tests in Barcelona. The weather is almost Moscow – about 10 degrees, wind and rain, and this year’s tests are the last, and no one will return the lost days.
In such circumstances, veterans of the youth series come to the fore – yesterday it was 24-year-old Ralf Boschung, driving for the sixth year in Formula 2, today – 27-year-old Israeli Roy Nissani.
The track in Barcelona is reasonably safe, but the tests were again often interrupted by red flags. In the morning, Marino Sato stopped on the straight, after which Iwasa lost control of the car and crashed into the wall at Turn 5, where Hughes and Caldwell flew into the gravel. Then Vips stopped in Turn 11 and Caldwell stopped in fourth.
After lunch it started to rain and the riders were stuck in the pits for a long time – there was too little water on the track for wet tires and too much for slicks, but then track condition improved – and Nissany led protocol.
Tomorrow, Barcelona will host the third and final day of Formula 2 testing this week.
