Lawson: It turns out I’ll be taking my dad to Singapore

Daniel Ricciardo is coming to Singapore to take part in AlphaTauri promotions, but Liam Lawson will once again be behind the wheel of his car…

Yuki Tsunoda: “The Monza stage didn’t go so well, although we showed good pace before race day, which shows the progress we have made.

After that, my agenda was very busy, starting with a trip to Venice for the premiere of the film “Whatever it Takes”, which tells about our team. This is my second trip to a truly unique Venice. The film turned out to be interesting, I was able to look behind the scenes and learn things I didn’t know before.

Then I went to Germany to the Red Bull show at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, where Sebastian Vettel was driving one of his old Red Bull Racing cars. I was racing a Honda NSX GT3, my first time behind the wheel of such a car and my first time on this track, so everything was new to me! The track turned out to be difficult, with many blind bends and height differences. I can’t imagine what it would be like to race Formula 1 cars from yesteryear there.

Ahead is a trip to Asia, where a series of two races in a row awaits us. I love competing in Singapore. Last year I made it to the last qualifying session under difficult conditions on a drying track.

If we talk about the configuration, then in Singapore there is a real street circuit, each section is a public road and the condition of the asphalt changes during each session. It is important to gradually increase the pace and complete as many laps as possible to gain confidence in the car. In the first practice we assess the track conditions and get a first impression of the car’s behavior to understand whether it is suitable for this track. Then we will prepare for qualifying. This year the circuit in the third sector has changed a bit, which can increase overtaking opportunities.”

Liam Lawson: “I felt more confident in Monza than in Zandvoort, although I still have a lot to learn. Feeling more comfortable driving a car like this can make a big difference. After two races I understand the difference between the tire compounds better, which is also important. I’d say everything went quite well in Monza, although it was a shame not to earn any points as I finished so close. If I had had a better start, things could have turned out differently, but for now I’m just learning and happily moving on.

Last year I came to Singapore as a reserve driver and as a kid I really loved this track. Probably because the race took place at night and looked really cool. I have always chosen this circuit in Formula 1. My father promised me every year that he would take me to the Singapore Grand Prix, in the end we never went, but he will come to the Grand Prix this weekend – now I have taken him. I know that the coming race will be physically very difficult, so even well-trained riders will have a hard time.”
