One of the stated tasks of the women’s W Series was to prepare riders for the transition to more serious series, but so far there has been no result. Jamie Chadwick won the championship title twice (!) convincingly, but found no options, she will spend the third season in the series – and will almost certainly win it again, confirming Jamie’s talent and the futility of the series.
The head of Formula 2 and Formula 3 Bruno Michel regrets that the champion was once again unable to find a place in Formula 3, but sees no ready-made options.
Bruno Michel: “It would be very important for us and our future. We have plans to help women to our championship, but it is important that they are ready for this. The goal is for them to perform at a high level and win races. Only this can change the situation.
Last year we called two women from the W Series and two from the Ferrari Academy to test. This year we will do more testing, but testing alone is not enough to reach the target. And that’s what we’re working on now.
Frankly, I don’t understand why Jamie has not been able to secure a place in Formula 3. Some teams were ready. I heard about negotiations with one of the teams, but I don’t know what got in the way. Very sorry. I was sure she was ready for Formula 3, but she’s not with us – she’s going to spend another season in the W Series. She decides for herself how to proceed – with her management.
The obvious question of how Chadwick will find sponsors for a commercial Formula 3 performance after the almost free W Series, Bruno Michel did not answer. Yet herein lies the crux of the problem.
