The Red Bull Racing Group is preparing to produce its first production car, the RB17 hypercar, equipped with a V8 hybrid powertrain that can deliver more than 1,100 horsepower. Prices have been announced for the car, which will start at £5 million and enter production by 2025, with a total of 50 racetrack cars.
The RB17 project is being carried out by Red Bull Advanced Technologies, led by Adrian Newey, head of the company’s engineering department. The two-seat hypercar is produced entirely by Red Bull at its base in Milton Keynes.
Christian Horner, CEO of Red Bull Racing and Red Bull Advanced Technologies, said: “The RB17 is an important milestone in the company’s evolution as the division can now design and build production cars at its production site in Milton Keynes.
In addition, the RB17 will be the first car available to collectors with the Red Bull brand.”
Adrian Newey, Head of Engineering at Red Bull Racing and Red Bull Advanced Technologies said: “The RB17 embodies everything we know about building Formula 1 championship cars, this two-seat race car is exceptionally fast.
With the RB17, we tried in many ways to push the boundaries of what was possible – in the past, motorsport enthusiasts and collectors have not had such a level of technology. †
The heart of the hypercar is a monocoque made of composite materials. The principle of ground effect is implemented in the RB17 – such a perfect aerodynamic body kit has not yet been produced in production cars. The model’s name doesn’t inadvertently evoke associations with Red Bull Racing Formula 1 cars – prospective customers should feel the car’s kinship to the company’s glorious racing heritage.
Orders for it will be accepted from today, detailed specifications will be made public later. The £5 million price tag includes not only ownership, but also access to a Red Bull Technologies simulator and on-track training under the guidance of the team’s experts.
The maintenance of the machine is also carried out directly by the company. A press release on RB17 emphasizes that the project will create more than 100 new jobs at the Milton Keynes base.
