AlphaTauri is the only team with both seats formally vacant for the 2024 season. The contracts of Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo expire at the end of 2023 and no new agreements have been signed with either driver.
It is believed that Daniel Ricciardo, who missed the previous two races and will miss the Singapore Grand Prix due to a hand injury, will remain in the team. AlphaTauri CEO Peter Bayer has already said that the team needs an experienced driver, and the Australian is perfect for this role.
The option of Tsunoda continuing to drive for the Faenza team was taken for granted until Liam Lawson, who temporarily replaced Ricciardo, got behind the wheel of the AlphaTauri. The New Zealander made a strong impression on the engineers and team management and according to Racer, Liam will become Ricciardo’s teammate in 2024.
As for Yuki Tsunoda, the Japanese racer continues to enjoy the support of Honda, which supplies power units to Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri. If there is no room for him in AlphaTauri, Yuki will most likely receive a contract as a reserve driver for the championship team.
