The Red Bull Racing team won all fourteen races of the season. At the FIA press conference, reigning world champion Max Verstappen suggested that this weekend would be the one in which his rivals would have the best chance of success, as his RB19 car is not suitable for the Singapore city circuit.
Max Verstappen: “I don’t think we will be as competitive in Singapore as at other circuits. City circuits are less suitable for our car, and even if we do our job very well, the battle will be very fierce.
I’m happy with the changes on the track: less work with braking and steering, and more opportunity to catch my breath. The strain on the tires will probably also be less and there is hope that the new configuration will make the race more interesting, but it all depends on the presence or absence of a DRS zone on this straight.”
When asked if he felt less pressure after setting a new record with his tenth consecutive victory, Max said: “I never really thought about the numbers. I just always try to do my best.
In fact, every weekend I feel the same pressure I put on myself to achieve the best result. From this point of view, nothing has changed after the tenth victory.”
Red Bull Racing has a chance to guarantee victory in the constructors’ championship next Sunday. When asked if it can be said that the team has never been at such a high level as in 2023, Max said: “I think the team always performs at a very high level, and the results depend on how fast the car is.”
She was fast last season, but not at all the year before, so we didn’t win the Constructors’ Championship. Now we have managed to bring all the components together and we understand the regulations perfectly. If a team has competent people in all positions, it is possible to achieve the results we are achieving this year.”
After the race in Monza, Toto Wolff described Max Verstappen’s tenth consecutive victory as “Wikipedia numbers”. In Singapore, the current world champion was asked to comment on the words of the Mercedes team leader.
“I wasn’t upset by his words,” Max Verstappen replied. “They had a pretty bad race, so he was probably angry about his own result.” Sometimes Toto says things that make you think he works on our team. Fortunately it doesn’t work for us.
I think it’s important to focus on your own team. That is what we are doing now and what we did in the past when we were behind Mercedes and they were dominant. As far as I’m concerned, you should be able to appreciate it when a team is successful. And in the past we appreciated this – their successes became, in a way, a source of inspiration for us.
We knew we had to work harder and get better to reach this level. And now our team has achieved this and is happy: we are enjoying the moment. Honestly, that’s all I can say on the subject.”
