Kevin Magnussen admitted that the capabilities of the Haas car do not allow it to count on points even in Singapore, although the city circuit differs significantly in characteristics from Monza, where the weaknesses of the VF-23 were more than noticeable.
Kevin Magnussen: “I think our performance in Monza turned out to be the weakest of the entire season, where the team had a lot of problems both in qualifying and in the race. But we understand that we lagged behind in the pace of modernization during the season, although we started the year more or less decently and at times we managed to earn points.
But now many teams have improved significantly, including McLaren and Williams, while we are just waiting to take a step forward. We are preparing some interesting new products, they will probably appear on our car this year and I am really looking forward to them.
I’m not ready to confirm yet that this will be a B version of the chassis, but we will indeed look to introduce quite a few new components, and this is encouraging. Hopefully we’ll bring them to Austin, although I can’t say exactly when the team plans to introduce them. Hopefully this will happen soon enough.
But for now we’re behind, and the fact that the Singapore track requires us to tune the car to a high level of downforce won’t change much for us. I think we will remain at about the same level. However, in every race we try to take advantage of every opportunity, whether it is the appearance of a safety car or something else.
We understand that the capabilities of the VF-23 do not allow us to count on points, and yet we will do everything in our power.”
