Sainz: In Singapore we won’t be as fast as in Monza

In the final stage in Monza, Carlos Sainz won pole position and finished third in the race, which was his best result of the season. In Singapore, the Ferrari driver is preparing for a more difficult weekend.

Carlos Sainz: “In the previous few races I felt confident behind the wheel as we started to understand the car better. The team selected the right settings from the first training session, which left them feeling confident and gradually improving as the weekend progressed.

Overall, I understand and drive the car better this year, and in the previous two or three weekends I managed to put all the components together, which was reflected in the results. My goal for the second half of the season is to show more consistent results. I hope we will have more weekends and results like in Monza.

If we are realistic about our chances this weekend, we won’t be as fast on this track as we were in Monza. This season we have more problems on high downforce tracks compared to tracks where the car has to be set up for low downforce. In Singapore there are no long bends, on the contrary sharp 90 degree bends, which don’t suit our car very well.

At the same time, warm weather is expected this weekend, which will cause serious stress on the tires. It won’t be easy for us, but we’ll see. This year, the balance of power is constantly changing from race to race, so we must be prepared for any developments.”
