Ahead of the race weekend in Singapore, the Alfa Romeo team has confirmed the contracts with Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou for 2024. At the FIA press conference, the Chinese driver revealed some details of the agreement.
Guanyu Zhou: “Right now, I have agreements with the team for 2024. As for the future, as you know, the team is working on a new project [с Audi]so we will determine my plans for 2025 and next year, taking into account all possible options.
After many teams previously announced their rosters, my option became clear to me. At the beginning of the year I decided to focus on my own pilots and before the summer holidays we decided to explore the options available. Of course there were options, but I made it clear that I wanted to stay with the team.
It took a little longer than expected before the contract extension was announced this year. This was only because we wanted to take all the details into account and come to an agreement. From my side everything was clear: continuing cooperation with the team was my priority. There were few empty seats in Formula 1 and I am happy with the team and the group of engineers surrounding me.
I participate in the creation of the 2024 car – the team is already working on this project. My stay will allow me to be more involved in this work and make more efforts. Valtteri and I will do everything we can to ensure that the team moves in the right direction, eliminating the car’s weaknesses and maintaining its strengths.
After the contract issue is resolved, you can focus on the work. I am happy to stay with the team and continue to compete in Formula 1, and next year will take place my home Grand Prix, which I have been waiting for for two years.”
